The Chicago/Midwest Chapter is surfing the waves of the World Wide Web with its own Home Page, hosted by Xsite.net in Chicago. Four years ago, the Chapter launched PHOTO STOP BBS, which generated more than 300 members and 4,000 calls. Technology has advanced by at least one generation since then, and the new "Son of BBS" Web site is much more than just a text-based medium. Today's Home Page can support a sophisticated display of graphics and images.
The address or domain name of the chapter web page is: http://www.chimwasmp.org. Chapter members, or supplier/ sponsors, who also have Web pages can be linked to the Chapter's Web Page to help promote their businesses, as well as the ASMP-so please let us know about them. Photographers should he particularly interested in web pages because they can support graphics and photographic images. Other Home Page advantages are that they can be developed at relatively low cost (compared to printed promotions), and can be called up on the Web by anyone, anywhere, at anytime.
Home Pages are structured with a front page that includes introduction and general information, followed by support pages. With the click of a mouse, viewers can peruse the other pages, no matter if they are stored on the same directory, or located on computers thousands of miles away. This referencing of pages allows us to link the Chapter's Home Page to pages of our Chapter members, other ASMP Chapters around the country, and supplier/sponsors. More importantly the Chapter Web Page can become a network of connected "galleries," which display and promote the work of individual photographers, as well as professional photography in general.
Eventually, we may offer Chapter members an opportunity to store their Web Pagcs at a reduced price in the Chapter's directory at our service provider. However, Chapter members would be responsible for creating, testing, and maintaining their own Web Pages-even though these pages would be linked to the Chapter page.
